Hertz Cento Power
Hertz is fully embracing Hi-Res listening in the car with the Cento Power range of amplifiers. Currently, there are four amplifiers in the range, including two monoblocks and a 4-channel. Here we focus on the 5-channel Hertz Cento Power CP 5.1K.
This boasts 4 X 80 Watts plus a 330-watt subwoofer output into 4 ohms. It offers plenty of power for a mighty three-channel system running actively or a five-channel system with two pairs of speakers running passively from the four 80-watt channels. Various bridging options are offered, and as the amplifier has Class D circuitry, it can happily run a low-impedance speaker array if more power is required.
The compact aluminium chassis and case are finished with a top panel with bevelled edges and a perspex cover for access to a plethora of controls offering smart aesthetics and, of course, there is a Hi-Res logo. The presence of this logo tells us that the amplifier reproduces frequencies from 10Hz to 41kHz as stipulated by the Japan Audio Society (JAS). In a market dominated by high-end DSP-equipped amplifiers, it is refreshing to see the logo appearing on a relatively affordable powerhouse. Of course, a discrete Hi-Res DSP such as the relatively inexpensive Hertz S8 could be integrated with a system to add many top-end features.
Fully connectorised inputs and outputs help with speedy installation using highly durable Molex connectors.
The amplifier accepts speaker level or line level inputs and there is a remote in/out port when using a signal from the head unit to turn the it on and off. Alternatively, the amplifier features speaker input turn on/off facility, to save your installer from running a wire.
A universal speaker simulator (USS) is built in to all channels. Many modern cars will output an error code if a speaker is disconnected, so this is necessary if changing the original configuration.
Convenient top-mounted controls are protected by a removable cover. Once removed, your installer has access to input level controls, Hi-pass and lo-pass filter settings, sub-level and bass boost controls. Even without a DSP, there are many helpful features to help get the best sound out of your amplifier.
Further to the design and functions available, a wired remote sub-level control is available for those necessary on the road tweaks, particularly when listening to a broad selection of Hi-res music on the move.
We thoroughly recommend a demonstration. Visit your local Hertz reseller to find out more.
